Karen Braga

Counsellor

Karen is a qualified counsellor with a special interest in Bowen Family Systems. Having completed the Certificate in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Application, she is currently studying the Advanced Certificate of Couple and Family Systems Therapy through the Family Systems Institute (due to complete in 2025).

With extensive nursing experience and many years in pastoral ministry, Karen understands that life and relationships can be complex, even difficult. By coming to understand the dynamics of our family, work relationships or our past, we can gain fresh insight and create new opportunities for real change. Karen works in a calm, caring and confidential environment with individuals, couples and families to improve all aspects of their relationships and well-being.

With a significant portion of her career dedicated to working with families, Karen is aware of the complex challenges that couples and parents face in today’s world. Her vision is to guide couples, individuals, and parents in ways that instil hope and build confidence in their own capabilities to relate well. Karen is particularly committed to assisting parents in effectively relating to a struggling or symptomatic child, without judgement or blame. She is accredited to use the Parent Hope Project manualised parent programs developed by Dr Jenny Brown.

Karen enjoys working with people of all backgrounds and cultures and is respectful of each client’s belief system. Her background in church ministry equips her to work with people from a Christian background and those working in ministry or faith-based organisations.
