Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
Lauren is an experienced Accredited Mental Health Social Worker having worked in a range of mental health services (youth and perinatal), VAN (violence abuse and neglect) services, schools and private practice settings. Within these roles she has worked as a family specialist worker, provided parent counselling and programs and has counselled young people, couples and families particularly around the presence of mental illness.
Lauren has been exploring Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) over the last few years and has found this to have the most explanatory power around how to make sense of individuals and families struggles in the here and now. This approach to counselling provides a way forward through these struggles and dilemmas with a focus on growing one’s understanding of self in the context of the relationships and maturing in the ways that one lives out their own convictions and beliefs despite relational pressures. While using this as an overarching theory, Lauren uses and applies tools and strategies from other therapeutic approaches (e.g. acceptance and commitment therapy) that might assist with managing one’s own internal world and emotion regulation.
Lauren has also completed subjects with the Christian Counselling and Education Foundation and training through the Gidget Foundation in perinatal and infant mental health, which both inform her practice in different ways.
Qualifications:
- – Bachelor of Social Work (UoN)
