Family Systems Psychotherapist and Social Worker
Martina is a family systems psychotherapist and social worker with over 16 years experience, she has a Master of Social Work (AASW), a Grad. Dip. in Gestalt Psychotherapy and an Advanced Certificate in Couple & Family Systems Therapy (AAFT).
She has worked extensively with families, parents and young people both in private practice and in the public sector including children/adolescents with complex and acute mental health and behavioural issues. Martina is familiar with the issues young people face and the stress parents experience.
Martina’s work in youth mental health services, where the focus was treating children/teens, led her to understand that longer term benefits in young people occurred when parents were included in treatment. Martina specialises in Bowen Family Systems Theory in her work with parents and families. This way of ‘thinking systems’ has led her to understand that how we feel, what we do, and how we think, cannot be separated from our significant relationship systems.
She is currently in private practice in Bondi Junction working with families, couples, adults and parents, as well as a trainer and supervisor for The Family Systems Institute, Australia’s leading training centre in Bowen Family Systems Therapy where she facilitates training accredited by the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT).
She has worked in youth mental health (headspace Bondi Junction), Drug & Alcohol (Gloo Project) and with the LGTBQI+ community (Aids Council of NSW).
Martina has published two articles in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy which were amongst the top 10% downloaded articles in both 2016 and 2018. She has presented her work at symposiums and conferences.
